Josh and Niki Carlbom have been the proud purveyors of Sun Canyon Lodge’s various goods and services for the better part of two decades. Josh’s parents, Lee and Sue Carlbom, purchased the establishment in 1983, when Josh was five years old. Niki’s parents, Dan and Shelly Campbell, have been a constant presence for the last twenty years, and an integral part of the Lodge and the community around Sun Canyon. Together now, Josh and Niki operate the bar, restaurant and the outfitting. They have been doing this for over twenty seasons (since 2005), gaining widespread respect for the knowledge of the land and hospitality they provide to their guests.

Even with all their combined experience they couldn’t do it alone. Joining Josh and Niki is an incredibly hard-working crew and their two children to help keep the place lively. Kadee (18) and Charlie (14) used to be spotted riding bareback around the corrals, playing kick the can in the yard, and often assisting their mom and dad with chores around the Lodge and in the back-country camps.

Now you will find Kadee cooking all backcountry summer trips, gathering at the Lodge and in the Wilderness, picking up a shift here and there in the main lodge—you name it and she can do it! Charlie assists with the gathering and feeding at the Lodge, keeps the guests entertained and is the latest, youngest guide. He loves to hunt!
Niki and Josh pride themselves on the family-run tradition of Sun Canyon, and love being able to share a truly unique Montana experience with everyone who walks through their front door. To quote their motto: “We aren’t fancy, just plain good!”
